Bland Words & Other Pet Peeves

Hello everyone,

Sorry I was MIB (missing in blogging). I was stuck with my manuscript that crisis has been averted. Thank Goodness. The seven thousand words have been written, almost.I still need about five thousand more words.

I also wanted to thank you for reading my silly posts and sticking with me. It means a lot. I honestly didn’t think anybody would like anything I posted. I know thank you might be overused or bland but it comes from the heart.

Okay bland words we all use them. Words like good, okay, say, bla, bla, bla. You get the picture. About two months ago my boss gave me my employee report card. That’s not what it actually called but when it comes down to it that’s what it is. This employee report card is a piece of paper that has little check boxes for your boss to mark. Then the boss tells you how well you did by check marking the boxes.

Anyway, he marked the boxes and told me, “You did a good job.”

Good job.

I wouldn’t recommend using this question for your boss unless you have an excellent working relationship with them.

Then I asked, “why use the word good, okay, or satisfactory when you can use words like amazing, exemplary, outstanding, overachiever, go-getter.”

He laughed, and I offered to write the next assessment form. Because, who wants to hear they’re an okay employee when they can hear they are um… Uh Oh my brain shut down, I can’t think of any words at the moment.

Here is a list of substitute words to use for Said, very, nice, & feel.
